New HondaJet Has A Toilet With Seat Belts, Other Lesser Improvements

Honda’s line of private jets have always been technological marvels, and their latest revision is no exception. The new HondaJet Elite increases fuel range over the original, is quieter, and has upgraded sound and avionics systems. The big news, though, is the HondaJet Elite’s fully-enclosed lavatory, which has a…

Banish Brutal Bathroom Smells With Your Own Homemade “Poo-Pourri”

Bathroom odors can be traumatizing whether you caused it or not. Products like Poo-Pourri and Just A Drop can help keep the stench at bay, but you can easily make your own smell-be-gone spray at home.

In this video from the HouseholdHacker YouTube channel you’ll learn how to make your own pre-poop spray with essential oils and few other things you probably have lying around your home. Mix 3/4 of a cup of water with 2 teaspoons of rubbing alcohol, 2 teaspoons of hand or dish soap, and mix it all together with 40 to 50 drops of your preferred essential oil (lavender, peppermint, eucalyptus, etc.). Then put in a spray bottle to keep near your porcelain throne. Just like with Poo-Pourri and Just A Drop, you add the spray to the water before you go. By the time you flush, there will be no nose-worthy evidence of the business you just took care of. You can even add food coloring to the spray so you can see the smell barrier and get some extra peace of mind.

Poopfiction Finds the Perfect Story to Read While You're on the Toilet

Aesop’s fables are engaging, bite-sized stories you can read and ponder in a short amount of time. In other words: great bathroom material.

If you’re like most people, you use your phone in the bathroom: a few Facebook likes, a quick move on Words With Friends, hell, maybe even an email reply. Poopfiction can help you use that time to catch up on some reading, too. It selects a piece of literature for you to read, depending on how long you’ll be on the can.

Many of these are simply short fables; others are essays or stories that are several paragraphs long. All of these stories are public domain works from Project Gutenberg.

Of course, you can’t go wrong with a good old magazine or an informative article, but this is great if you don’t have any on hand, and you find yourself on the toilet without anything to read (perish the thought). Plus, it’s nice to actually finish reading something on the toilet.

Unclog a Toilet With a Mop and Plastic Bag When You Don’t Have a Plunger

As everyone knows, the Plunger Uncertainty Principle dictates that you can know where your plunger is, or you can need a plunger, but never both at the same time. If your toilet is clogged and you can’t find your plunger, place a plastic bag over a mop to get the job done.

As ICanDoThatPlumbing demonstrates above, many minor clogs can be cleared up with a plastic bag-covered mop. Just place a plastic bag (or a few) over the head of a mop and place it fully inside the drain. While it’s not quite as effective at creating a vacuum as a plunger, it can still do a decent job of clearing up minor blockages.

Put Paper over Automatic Toilet Sensors to Prevent Accidental Flushes

Put Paper over Automatic Toilet Sensors to Prevent Accidental Flushes

Mankind, in its great hubris, created automatically flushing toilets as a way to ensure clean public bathrooms. The result, however, are wonky sensors that flush four or five times as you sit on them. Get your peaceful potty break back with a bit of paper over the sensor.

While it may not work for every model (some toilets have the sensor built into the wall), covering the sensor at the top of the flushing mechanism with a bit of paper will keep the flush from activating when you shift around. How well this works will depend on the type of sensor in the toilet and the thickness of the toilet paper, but when it works, it can potentially save you several unintentional flushes.

Unclog a Toilet Like a Plumber

Nobody likes a clogged toilet. While you might think you just need a plunger and a strong arm to unclog a toilet, The Art of Manliness points to a few plumber tricks that make unclogging your toilet a little more pleasant.

As you’d expect, the first thing you need to do is stop your toilet from overflowing. From there, just grab your funnel-cup plunger, run the rubber of the plunger under some hot water, and plunge away. If that doesn’t work, a little warm water and dishwasher soap does the trick . If all else fails, The Art of Manliness shows off how to properly use an auger to get rid of the offending blockage.
